August 20, 2006 Pilar, Jean-Pierre, Yours Truly Elevation: 1271 m Length: 180 m Pitches: 8 Grade: 5c (5.9) Where: Parc National du Vercors One hour approach with a crack of 11am start. Le Gendarme.  The route goes up its right ridge, and descends in       five long rappels down its left gully. Pitch 1. Beautiful view of the valley. Fun crux pitch. Nearing the top after a sweeeet exposed final pitch. The summit.  5 rappels still to go, and 1 hour of light left! Looking south-west. Looking east towards the Vercors plateaus. Rappeling the gully. 1:30am, finally back at the car, after losing my belay device, feeling for the rap anchors in        the dark and having to prusik back up 40 meters of rope to unjam it from a bush.  Oof.
